Overview
There were various informative sessions on the firm scattered throughout the 2 weeks on topics like the journey through a training contract and various departmental sessions. We also were sat in a different department each week assisting on trainee tasks involving reviewing documents and preparing draft reports for clients. Additionally, there were opportunities to get involved in client calls and other tasks for fee earners at the firm. Also had socials organised throughout the scheme.

Business Insight
Roles: they made it very clear from the start about the training contract application process and the likelihood of securing them. Business: they provided great insight into understanding the business as a whole with the various sessions. Departmentally, lots of training was provided on their work particularly in technical departments where bespoke sessions were put on by associates to help us transition to working in the department. Everyone was more than happy to help if ever confused at all.
Culture
The culture is very inclusive and committed to improving their diversity and impact. They have a strong sense of purpose that is not found elsewhere and the culture is very collaborative in achieving their aims. They have an open door policy and everyone tried to make themselves approachable and friendly. The best culture you can ask for in a law firm!
Your Impressions
I loved the scheme. The work we did was actually valued and was not done just for the sake of giving us something to do - we were working on actual cases. Graduate recruitment did a great job with the schedule and socials and everyone got on very well. The best scheme I have done so far and it was the most friendly team I have worked with!
Yes
* practice the online tests, particularly the logical if you can (TryTalentQ is great) * don’t lose your head in the tests - if you think you have messed it up, persevere as they are designed in this way and you may surprise yourself * know why you want to enter commercial law and WHY SIMMONS. If you are not genuine about S&S it is very quickly found out * practice competency questions for the video interview and assessment centre * time management is key in the assessment centre as the time limits are very tight
