The Role
I expected the work to be a little more inventive and less "following procedures". Hence the low rating. But for somebody who does not mind that, the work can be a lot more interesting.
The overall atmosphere and the relationships between the employees is overall very pleasant. I was always treated as being equal to the other more experienced empoyees, which I regard very highly.
In RR the year placement is divided into two six months ones on different workplaces. In one of the workplaces the support I was given was not very good while on the other one it was great. So 6/10 is the average.
The workload was very pleasant, not too much and not too little. Also the working hours are quite flexible, as long as you keep similar hours each week and you do your duties.
The amount of responsibility in the two workplaces was diametrally different, this is the average. Both levels of responsibility were sensible though.
I now have a much better idea what I would like to do in my future life than before the placement. In this respect, the placement was an invaluable experience. My technical knowledge have also rocketed during the placement, especially because I was not taught the techncal problems in lecture rooms, but I have seen them in real life, in a real industrial plant.
The Company
The overall atmosphere was very good, everybody tries to be friendly on their colleagues and I was treated like a member of the team who worked there 20 years. I was very impressed with that. I am not sure what the statement "fun never stopped" menas, I was in an engineering company, not in a comedy casting.
I found the split between the two worklpaces and therefore the opportunity to try different tasks especially useful.
One day training was given to all the interns and the level of that training was just outstanding! Also, I had the opportunity to visit supplers far from my base area, which even though is not strictly speaking a training, gave me a very valuable experience. On the other hand, there was a course available on understanding the engine I was working on which, if attended, would have saved me lots of time studiing the engine from drawings. However, I believe that my managers were not aware of it/unaware that it will help a lot rather than unwilling to offer it to me. There were no other trainings I required to perform my work, which makes this question a bit harder to judge.

Unfortunately, the work I was given I did not find very interesting, so the future job within RR does not sound particularly exciting. I would like to highlight that it is maybe my personality which does not match with the company rather than the company giving me unsuitable tasks. The work I am given is for me much more important than the other non-work related aspects in which RR scores very well.
The Culture
There was definitely a good social scene and the interns held together, especially because lots of them were not local.
The area was not cheap at all. However, the company paid me very well, so the earnings/expneses ratio was actually very good
Yes, there was very good nightlife.
There were some opportunities and there is a good mix of them If one decides to follow most of them, it will keep him/her entertained.
