    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • We provide resources to our client for different projects and general job roles that need filling. We work to find suitable candidates by reviewing their CVs then if they are suitable and have the correct skills that our client requires we can then porpose them. If they are successful we help to get them onboarded. These job roles can be for certain projects that we are assisting with or for specific job openings. Daily we run through different possible resources and see where we can fit them in to any openings.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I've been able to learn about the corporate businesses and how certain business processes happen. It's improved my communication skills significantly as I am working with a range of people in different job roles and countries both online and in person. I have also been able to work alongside clients so this has given me an overview of how client relationships are built and sustained. I have also been able to learn general business skills such as Excel, Powerpoint and different applications similar to this.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a large amount of responsibility especially as the time went on. I was able to get involved with big projects allowing me to work alongside important clients. I was also able to help on certain bids and proposals that provided us with successful business results and provided great success for IBM in our department. During my internship I was given day to day tasks that I could complete independently which I found improved my confidence within the role.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I recieved a good amount of guidance as I got help from not only my task manager but also form many members of my team. This meant I had a range of people to go to if I ever needed assistance with something. Also the use of slack, our messaging application, meant that I could message and get a reply quickly from one of my team members allowing me to continue with work soon after if I ran into an issue.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Because there was a range of interns working from home as well as in the office, either due to their manager or team coming in more possibly or dependent on where an intern lived, I found it was difficult to connect with interns as personally I worked from home mostly. However there was online meetings to connect with the interns which did help this. They also had in person events that we could attend also.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed parts of my placement however there were times where I found it was difficult to connect with team members. Possibly as I had no prior experience or skill in business it was difficult at the start to jump right in as it took time to build up my skills to a point where I could be useful to others. Also because we were working remotely we only had a few meetings in the day which were online and therefore I missed out on the personal connections with people/ interns. I was able to get involved in big projects which I enjoyed but a lot of the times I was given admin jobs which got quite boring after a while and I found these type of tasks didn't help me develop many skills.

  • 7. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to IBM
  • I would say that they look for someone with a drive to learn new skills and get involved with every opportunity. It's not so much about the skills you already have or experience but more about the kindof person you are. They want someone who has a willingness to jump into any opportunity given to them and a motivation to be successful in their role as well as learn as much as they can. Also to be confident in yourself especially in the application process and assessment centre. Show to them you want to do your best and get involved as much as you can.
