Overview
I was involved in tasks such as carrying out legal research, preparing research notes, comparing versions of correspondence, reviewing contracts and preparing a note on a talk I attended. I also attended many talks such as a Crypto workshop, partner panel and London Tech Week. There were also socials for the summer scheme participants to interact such as mini golf and volunteering.
Skills
I developed my communication skills. The scheme was busy and I was able to meet a lot of different people both in person and via teams meetings. As a result my written and verbal communication improved. My time management also improved managing the busy schedule whilst ensuring I completed the department work in a timely manner.
Business Insight
It was exciting and motivating to see how a commercial law firm operates on a daily basis. As a graduate, I have read and spoken to a lot of people about what they do but it was fantastic to witness first-hand 'commercial law' and get involved in real tasks.
Culture
The culture was fantastic. Everyone I encountered, from current trainees to senior partners, was welcoming, approachable and genuinely wanted to get to know you. Despite only being at the firm for two weeks, I met so many people and this was largely due to the supportive, friendly, collegiate culture which is facilitated by the firm's open plan office structure.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my time there. The scheme allowed me to get involved with so many different parts of the firm whilst also allowing ample time for departmental work. I was able to witness first-hand the firm's culture and understand why RPC has such a strong reputation for being an enjoyable, supportive place to be but also with high-quality work.
Yes
I would advise anyone who is applying to RPC to do your research, learn about all the different things the firm has to offer and speak to as many people as possible to try and find out if the firm is the right fit for you. It is important to learn about people's experiences to determine whether this is the place you want to try and develop your career in the longer term.
