    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The first day was an induction day in the More London regional office for the South East. The first week was an virtual training week in my LoS (Audit) - interns could visit the office mid way through the first week. The rest of the 3 weeks of my internship involved working with my team on audit tasks on Audit of Notes, Quality Checks, Share capital, Payroll and Laws and Regulations. Running at the same time was researching and preparing a team project with interns from around the country, in different LoS. The project was a 'Dragon's Den'-type project where we pitched our ideas for improving a real life Social Enterprise to a panel of judges.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have improved my business acumen immensely in just 4 weeks. Coming from a science background and degree, a lot terminology was knew but applying it in impactful work made it easy to quickly learn. My proficiency in Excel has also developed a lot as a majority of my work was completed through it. My communications skills, particularly in a flexible working and office environment have improved. I have also improved public speaking and presenting in a group through the Dragon's Den project.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given the same responsibility in many respects as the Associates and Senior Associates. This was especially the case on the Audit of Notes EGAs where I was given the similar type of work as the rest of team. I was also included as part of their week planning schedule where we had to report the work we had completed. I was also given responsibility to help my Team Leader with an end of week deadline.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My Engagement Team were very supportive and extremely easy to talk to. All members of any grade were keen to answer my questions and would spend time explaining new concepts to me. My assigned Career Coach regularly contacted me and made it easy to inquire about the graduate offer process. The Student Recruitment team communicated regularly to ensure everything went smoothly. I was also assigned a Buddy, who was an Associate level employee in the office - it was nice to be able to hear what graduates did and their advice.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone is extremely approachable and helpful. Even the Partners, who I had conversations with, were keen to learn about you and answer questions. It is a very supportive and inclusive atmosphere in the office. Everyone talks proudly and in high regards to the job and PwC as a whole. It is also an innovative environment in terms of the use of technology and also the flexibility in how you work. PwC comes across as a firm which cares about its people and how they can work the best they can.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed it so much! It was everything I hoped it would be. As this was my first opportunity to work in an office environment, I didn't have anything to compare it to. However, the culture and type of work I have done sets the benchmark for what I will now look for in my career. My work was all real auditing for a well known high street retailer - cool to see the impact the small team has!
