Overview
In each placement group we became part of the team. We conducted a range of tasks including document reviews and due diligence, we were also invited to join client calls.
Skills
I learnt to communicate better in a professional environment and I was given exposure to legal work that I had not come across before.
Business Insight
We were given practice group insight sessions on each day of our scheme. This allowed us to learn about the different work DLA does as well as learn about the skills that are required to work in each team.
Culture
For such a large company DLA had a brilliant culture. I had the opportunity to have long chats with international group heads as well as other extremely important individuals in the firm, sometimes they would even come up to me to talk! In terms of the working culture, the open plan office space meant that you always felt comfortable asking people questions or just having a general chat.
Your Impressions
The insight was excellent, there was a good mix of insight sessions, work available and networking opportunities.
Yes
DLA doesn't pride itself on recruiting traditional lawyers. They look for well rounded individuals with a range of skills and experiences to add to their culture. The only tip would be to be yourself and let your personal attributes shine through.
