The Role
I really enjoyed my placement at the Co-operative and feel as though my employability has improved greatly because of it.
I felt very valued by my colleagues and they had some very nice/positive things to say about me on my final day!
I received a lot of support from my manager and he really helped my development throughout the year.
Some days were busier than others, but in general I always had work to do.
I had quite a bit of responsibility, but would have liked more!
I think the skills I learnt on my placement will greatly benefit me in the future. I have recently been accepted onto a summer internship which I used many examples from my time at the Co-op during the interview process.
The Company
Generally pretty good, although as I worked near buyers, it could sometimes become quite heated between buyers and the suppliers they were speaking to. Word of advice, DON'T become a buyer...they are ALWAYS stressed!!
Generally pretty good!
I would have liked to have had more eternal training
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Healthcare/Dental
Employment prospects are good. Upon completion of my final review, I was put forward to the final stage of the application process for the graduate scheme.
The Culture
To begin with there was, however, it diminished once we were all settled in our jobs.
It was very similar to what I have experienced in many other areas of the country, e.g. Leeds, Sheffield and Norwich
There is a great area in Manchester called the Northern Quarter, which is home to some of the best bars I have been to. They aren't cheap, but are really good venues, which play good music.
Not really, although I had other personal commitments which meant I was busy most of the time anyway.
