Overview
I sat in two seats over two weeks. There were several workshops/talks/panels organised for the summer scheme. In the departments, I did research tasks, drafted wording for contracts and also helped with fact-checking. I also sat in on client calls as well as pro bono workshops that RPC was involved in. The Early Talent team also organised socials for us and we also did volunteering which was great.
Skills
Through the scheme, I was able to develop my communication skills as I was meeting someone new every day, from trainees to partners. My confidence also grew a lot as the firm is very supportive. On the work front, I learnt more about how to present my work to various members of the team and honed in on my research skills as well as my attention to detail.
Business Insight
We had a partner panel where we were able to ask several partners any questions we wanted. It was also great that we sat in one insurance and one commercial seat so we could get a varied experience. We were also provided with information on the different seats available which I found helpful
Culture
The culture and atmosphere at RPC is honestly amazing. Everyone is very friendly and always happy to help - I found this to be the case regardless if someone was a trainee, associate or partner. It was clear to me that RPC genuinely has a great supportive culture,
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the insight. It was great to be able to get more experience and learn more about being a lawyer but it was also a great way to learn more about the firm. I already had a very good impression of the firm before the scheme and the scheme not only lived up to my expectations but actually exceeded it. It really helped me to solidify that I wanted to work at RPC.
Yes
I would say be yourself when applying to RPC, don't be afraid to show your personality. For applications also make sure to review your grammar and be concise.
