Overview
I was doing work that will actually end up in the final audit. I was preparing risk management EGAs and identifying changes between years that require further investigation by an auditor. All of the interns across the country also took part in a Dragons' Den style challenge working with various social enterprises.
Skills
I am more confident in seeking out help from those more knowledgeable than me. I am more skilled in using Excel and have learnt how to use other software such as Aura. I feel much more comfortable in a professional, working environment. I have learnt how to professionally network.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility e.g., preparing parts of the audit planning stage on my own, but I was never left without access to help and all of my work was carefully checked, so I never had to worry about messing something up and causing problems.
Support & Guidance
I received exactly as much support and guidance as I needed. I had regular meetings with my 'career coach' and with my buddy. I also worked with a number of senior associates who were always happy to help me or assign me tasks when I was finished.
Culture
The atmosphere in the office was incredibly friendly. All of the interns were invited to several social activities outside of the office including a trip to the local pub after work in the first week and a whole office team meeting and sports day on one friday where the interns gave a presentations introducing ourselves. The sports day was really friendly, with mostly games like egg and spoon races, so it was fun even for people who aren't very sporty. The whole office went out for a meal afterwards and it was a really lovely day where we were all made to feel very welcome.
Your Impressions
I absolutely loved my internship here. I made friends and learnt new skills and I now feel much better equipped to enter the workforce.
Yes
Try your best. Even if you don't think this sort of internship is for you, whether that's because you don't do accounting at uni, or for another reason, I think PwC are interested in people from all sorts of backgrounds with different perspectives on things, so just give it a go!
