    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assigned two projects that take up the majority of the duration of employment. The first one is a consulting activity with a social enterprise, working cross line of service with the other interns. The other was a research based activity in a smaller group. Alongside work is assigned to individual interns, less menial and more upskilling in terms of using new softwares and learning the business process. Also sitting in on meetings with senior members of the team.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed many soft skills as well as practical skills. Firstly in terms of soft skills, through the presentations I developed my teamwork skills and communication as we collaborated virtually with all other interns across the country. My leadership skills were honed, when it came to taking charge of certain projects and helping others ideas be heard. My practical skills were developed through general upskilling in terms of google sheets and presentation skills, but also through more specific programs such as alteryx.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, firstly in terms of the cross line of service project, we were a group of 12 interns with a client who was an SME. We were given the task of reviewing their business model and ESG practices, and then forming practical solutions for their business to then implement. In terms of the individual project I was assigned, I was given a research task for one of the teams to help contextualise an up and coming form of technology for implementation in their annual plan.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was assigned a buddy and a career mentor in the internship. My buddy was an associate who had entered the team also through an internship and he was my first line of communication when it came to any struggles both in terms of the work and also personal during the internship. My career coach was there to help formalise my long term goals and help tailor the internship to make sure I made the most of it, both for myself and the team.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • PwC is known as being one of the top graduate employers for a reason. The intern intake was large this year and prior to the actual work we had to do, we were invited to multiple networking events where we got the chance to meet interns from across the country, and form some meaningful relationships. Within the office itself, there is a strong work culture, and the building is designed to foster social interactions both on the office floors and the food courts.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship in many different aspects. Firstly, the work culture was brilliant, both in terms of the internal audit team and the other interns. Everyone was so keen to help and form new relationships, so I made many new friends and professional connections throughout my time here. The work we were given was also very varied, so I was not bored at any point throughout the experience, also the level of responsibility given was high enough that it felt like we were bringing value to the team.
