Overview
My role varied throughout my internship, as I moved across different areas within the department. In HR Admin, my day-to-day job was dealing with the employee life cycle and various other admin tasks. Payroll was also heavy on admin tasks, with input on SAP being the main role for me. I was also given multiple projects which were carried out across the internship, including a HR metrics booklet and the creation of an exit interview.
Skills
I have learnt how to use HR systems, such as SAP and Virtual Cabinet Presentation and leadership skills through the training provided, which have helped enhance these skills from university I have improved on various microsoft systems, mainly in Excel
Responsibilities
I was happy with the amount of responsibility given, as I felt as though I was trusted in HR admin to carry out tasks. I also believe the projects I was allowed to do will be used beyond my internship, which allowed me to take pride in my individual work
Support & Guidance
This varied in the different areas that I went into. Overall I've had excellent support throughout the internship as my line manager was always available for questions and set my targets to fulfil each week, which structured my work and helped me to integrate into the business easily. However I believe I could have had better guidance during my time in Payroll.
Culture
The culture is excellent as I believe that everyone in my department takes pride in their own work. They are all welcoming and open-minded, and it was very easy to settle in when I started. The interns were all treated with respect and with a level of maturity that may have not been the case at other companies
Your Impressions
The placement was enjoyable due to the aforementioned company culture, and largely because of the intern community at BSH. As they have interns in a number of areas, I was able to join a group within my age range, which meant for plenty of social opportunities outside of work and it made the intern training sessions much more enjoyable and engaging.
