Overview
I support the environment and sustainable development team to deliver their sustainability strategy. This includes: meeting with/contacting stakeholders, researching and making case studies, offering technical support, collecting and analysing data, youth engagement work (STEM), and organising events.
Skills
I have developed a variety of skills, including: organisation, time management, research, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, presentation, etc.
Responsibilities
Yes. I was given autonomy of my own projects and supported colleagues on larger projects (e.g., producing reports for the government and International Union of Railways).
Support & Guidance
Lots! I had the support of my line manager (HR) and host manager (Environment team), as well as the reset of the Environment team and other Year in Industry Students/grads.
Culture
There is a really supportive atmosphere and culture in the office. Everyone is really friendly and kind.
Your Impressions
I loved it! I have learnt so much and have become a certified train nerd.
Yes
Gather as much experience outside of your degree as possible. Make sure you research Network Rail's core values (e.g., safety and diversity and inclusion) and have examples of how you have applied these ready for interviews.
