Overview
My role involves working with Arup's team in Ireland to identify energy saving opportunities in Irish Water projects. The other part of my day is spent creating block diagrams or helping other engineers in design calculations.
Skills
I have developed successful client relationships and strengthened my MS Excel skills. My perspective on Water engineering has also been broadened which would help me in my third year studies.
Responsibilities
I was given enough responsibility as a placement student to feel pressured when things went wrong which was perfect.
Support & Guidance
My managers along with my buddy were always quick to respond to any query I had even when they weren't around in the office.
Culture
Arup is an employee owned company and thus everyone is extremely passionate about what they do but also super helpful when you are in need of someone.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed all 8 weeks of my placement. I wasn't handed major responsibilities which I hoped to by the end of the placement but that's just me being enthusiastic.
Yes
Research the company and the role thoroughly before applying. Arup values social skills and extra-curricular activities a lot.
