    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was assigned a manager on my first day in the office and I have been a part of his project. He added me to their project meetings and I have helped with Power Point decks as well as learning new skills on Excel. I had the opportunity to set up coffee chats with various people from my team as well as individuals outside the team to catch up with them and learn more about their sector.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication skills by talking to a range of senior individuals and it has been interesting to learn more about their role. I have honed my Excel skills as EY has held a range of workshops and have lots of online learning resources to explore these skills. I have learnt more about SAP technology through online learning resources as well as being a part of workshops run by senior consultants. There have been lots of seminars where we had the opportunity to learn about other sectors within consulting and it has given us the chance to ask questions.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given the opportunity to get exposure to how meetings are run by being a part of a range of project collaborations. I was then given the responsibility to host the weekly activity for our team where I created a presented a Kahoot to lift the spirits for the start of the weekend. I helped create engaging powerpoint decks for future workshops and also had the responsibility of drafting and sending client emails on behalf of my manager.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There was a lot of people to support me during my internship at EY. On the first day in the office we were each assigned our own counsellor and buddy. Our counsellor was a senior employee and we met at least once a week to catch up on what work I was doing and how I was feeling. I could also contact her if I needed help with any tasks or wanted to ask any questions. My buddy was a graduate who I met with weekly as well and could ask more questions about what the graduate scheme is like.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was very inclusive and it focused on collaboration with one another. They had lots of social activities such as breakfasts, team lunches and after work drinks. These were great to get to know your team and fellow interns more as well as meeting graduates and seniors across the consulting departments. There are also a range of social clubs that you can be a part of such as netball and football. We also had a talk from the EY Fundraising group which demonstrated their focus on raising money for charities and getting involved.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed meeting my fellow interns as well as the other graduates. It was great to be in-person and in the office as it was easier to socialise. It also meant that we could have small chats in the office with fellow seniors and partners in the EY office if we bumped into them in the cafe. It was great to be a part of an EY project and help to deliver it in a fast-paced environment.

  • 7. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • I would tell them to make sure they know why they are applying the role they are applying for. You should demonstrate your passion for technology during the interview process and you have to be logical as there are some numerical tests before and during the assessment day. Everyone is very friendly at EY so do not be afraid to ask for help or if you want to learn more about a sector just put a coffee meeting in someone's diary to have a catch as they will be happy to talk.
