Overview
It would involve planning and carrying out experiments and then writing them up to a deadline. The work involved testing early phase drugs by multiple analytical methods. Some days would be spent in the lab and others would be at your desk processing and writing up data.
Skills
Yes, I have learnt various different analytical techniques that I learnt about at University. My team was also really helpful and helped me to develop my skills in these techniques and how to process the data.
Responsibilities
Yes, all experiments carried out are the same as those that other team members do. You are contributing to the teams work in progress board and every experiment that you do will be meaningful and contribute to something.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support from my assigned supervisor who set up regular meetings to chat about questions and work I was doing. I also felt like I could as them or any other team member any question if I was struggling with some work.
Culture
It felt like AstraZeneca really cared about your wellbeing and enjoyment of working there. When COVID regulations eased, there were many events for the team and department as well as lots of opportunities to get involved with things. I also went on a volunteering day which they do every year which was really nice.
Your Impressions
I think I had the best possible year at AZ. I learnt so much and experienced a really pleasant working environment that I would love to return to after my degree.
Yes
I would say that for the interview process, the company values are really important and the whole competency interview is based around them and your experiences that match them. For the technical interview, I would look over year 1/2 notes and if you get some wrong, it's okay. They want to see how you work through problems and if you can get to a reasonable answer even if you are unsure.
