Overview
Learning about pension scheme funding arrangements, training on compliance with regulators, report drafting and calculations of transfer values using excel. Attending webinars, teams meetings with other colleagues and market outlook calls
Skills
I have developed my, professional communication skills through office based experience. analytical skills through performing complicated transfer value calculations Technical skills with Microsoft Word and excel for report generating and spreadsheet work.
Responsibilities
Yes, though not dealing directly with clients. Rather, by drafting reports that would be read by employers, trustees and even drafting documents such as implementation statements, which are publicly available to anyone. Performing checks on CETVs for members and creating spreadsheets to check the updated CETVs under new actuarial assumptions.

The staff were helpful and supportive, plenty of training resources were also available throughout the internship.
Culture
The culture stood up to expectations set at the induction. I felt valued as an intern and felt respected by the colleagues there.
Your Impressions
I loved the placement. It gave me new insight into the actuarial profession that I now find myself focusing on. Before, I considered it an optional career path out of many. But now, I feel like pursuing the career further with more enthusiasm than before.
Yes
Tailor a cover letter specific to the company. Do research about BW as it is an interesting company and it will help you in your application. Try to familiarise yourself with how pensions work and the calculations involved with deferred annuities. Most importantly, be yourself and be kind as this is a huge part of the culture at BW
