Overview
My role includes working with the team and helping on any tasks necessary. I worked wioth people of various levels to work on projects and attend client meetings. I also worked on various tax computations for corporations and clients. Furthermore, I did work for clients regarding HMRC queries such as authorization and tax penalties. During my internship I also worked with other interns from different tax teams to present a group case study on new clients. This was a fantastic opportunity and greatly developed my skills.
Skills
I have learned how to communicate to others in a client facing role and how to effectively ask questions and respond to emails. I have also developed my presentation skills when working on a group case study. Furthermore, I have developed my technical skills relating to tax and learnt more about the compliance side of tax.
Responsibilities
Yes I was able to be in charge of my own schedule and contacting colleagues etc. I was also responsible for allocating some clients and completing admin to help the team overall.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of support and guidance during my internship. I took part in certificate learning which taught me useful skills in being a good leader and how to develop through coaching and feedback. I also was assigned to a buddy and counselor who looked after me during my time at EY, they always checked in and made sure the team reached out with work. Everyone is open to helping and answering any questions.
Culture
The culture and atmosphere is super friendly and open to helping everyone. You can recognize the strong and supportive relationships within each team and you can speak to anyone, regardless of their role/rank.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my time at the EY summer internship. I learnt new skills and developed existing ones. I got to see what it was like working in a full time services firm and living a 9-5 life and if it is what I want to do in my future.
Yes
Trust the process and be yourself! Practice lots of tests and practice interview questions for the job simulation. Do lots of research into the values of EY and ensure you incorporate that in lots of your answers but also use the values and relate to your experience. Familarise yourself with the culture and values of EY as well as the testing platform. Don't rush through the process either.
