Overview
We regularly work with video editing, and web page development- focusing on both UI and UX. We also use design software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to design graphics and do digital illustrations.
Skills
I learned how to use many Adobe programmes such as- XD and After effects, whilst also developing my skills on Illustrator and Photoshop. Fresco has become my main digital illustration tool and I’ve been introduced to programmes such as Xcode.
Responsibilities
I’ve been given a lot more responsibility than I had ever imagined. Working Solely on the design assets for a major customer engagement that the MD was involved in, as well as helping design things like a sustainability stall and being asked to help ideate around future ideas.
Support & Guidance
Apart from the Placement Team who onboarded and supported us throughout the placement. In my team, my manager had 1-1s with us. We were also assigned a buddy who was a full time member of staff that we could go to for advice. The whole team was constantly supportive and uplifting.
Culture
The Innovation Labs is super diverse in terms of age, gender, race etc. which I really enjoy. We’d play music whilst we work, order pizza when working a bit late and go on trips to museums and exhibitions to gain inspiration.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement - it totally over exceeded my expectations. I wasn’t entirely sure of what to expect or what I could get involved in but a fun, supportive team paired with creative, challenging work has been great. Couldn’t have asked for a better introduction into the workplace and start to my career.
Yes
Come in with an open mind, get involved in things that may seem challenging. It’s a very large company and that can be daunting- but everyone is super supportive and understanding.
