Overview
On a day to day basis, I worked on the Next Generation Cloud Delivery project where different lines of business have to move onto cloud hyperscalers such as GCP or AWS. I created an excel tracker sheet and made weekly updates with the names of customers, their information and any other essential information for example, line of business, summary of meeting etc. I would also make PowerPoints for meetings with Account Executives on Microsoft Teams.
Skills
I have developed good business skills such as writing emails on outlook and communicating in a professional manner with employees. This was something I developed through participating in meetings and drafting emails which I would then send to a team member who would read over the email before I sent it out. I developed my time management skills as I had to ensure I was working productively and that all presentations were ready before meetings.
Responsibilities
I was given a fair amount of responsibility as I needed to ensure any work such as PowerPoint presentations were made in time for the meetings. This was a lot more pressure that expected and I was able to successfully do this with some help. Also I was given the responsibility to ensure any data in our excel had the latest update which would save my colleagues the hassle of having to use old information.
Support & Guidance
The placement team have been very supportive in helping us in our personal development. We would have regular steerco calls every few weeks in which they would let us talk about any concerns. They would also have regular placement calls in which they would announce any new opportunities within the business. If we had any problems with our managers they would sort it out instantly. They were overall very helpful in guiding placement students.
Culture
The culture at the company was very sociable. Everyone is very friendly and there are loads of events to get involved in. Interns are welcome too and there are great networking opportunities. It is not too fast paced but just enough that it will definitely keep you busy. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the culture is very welcoming and I loved the free lunches. A lot of support is ready available from all the teams.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement year in terms of with the other interns. There was a lot of opportunities available like stretch projects. I was the creative and communications ambassador and we had to make videos spotlighting interns so it was really fun to be involved with. I also took ownership of the development of the year book and was awarded for my efforts. It’s really lovely atmosphere and work and I would definitely recommend.
Yes
I would say make sure you do your research on the company. Definitely write a cover letter to stand out. It is worth practicing for your interview and assessment center.
