Skills
I have learnt many skills. The main skills I have learnt is business acumen and the ability to make connections between different calls which can be difficult as the business has many acronyms. I have also enhanced my cultural awareness as working in such a diverse business has allowed me to meet many people that I may not have which I am appreciative for. My excel skills have significantly improved and my confidence in using it.
Responsibilities
I was given a decent amount of responsibility within my internship but not an amount in which I felt overwhelmed. Usual activities which I held included being responsible for ensuring that content for meetings was done and this was important as the meeting depended on the slides being accurate and to a good standard. I understand within my role that a lot of the activities within the department are for more senior people which explains the level of responsibility I had.
Support & Guidance
I was given support and guidance throughout the year and felt able to contact people within my team without feeling like a burden. The placement calls that the team delivered towards the second half of the year were very supportive but I felt that there could have been more once being onboarded within the first few months. I also was not assigned a buddy which I think may have been an oversight but this may have enhanced the experience
Culture
The company culture was good but I did feel looked down upon as intern The colleagues I worked with were very welcoming but it was often in the office where small remarks were made and they didn’t come across very friendly. I think this may be due to interns not being fully integrated into the office due to covid restrictions and other difficulties
Your Impressions
I did enjoy my placement and feel more confident for my graduate opportunities and secure in the abilities I have Developed. I am appreciative to have been in such a large cohort as it was easy to make friends and feel included. It was also interesting hearing about other intern roles across the departments which enhanced my understanding of the business and also enabled me to fulfil my job to a better standard which z
Yes
My advice would be to be prepared for a phone call and seem enthusiastic about the role. The scheme is looking for energetic and passionate individuals for the role so try to get this across (and it’s okay to not fully understand what the business does.) I would recommend doing background research on SAP and it’s values as this helped me a lot in my process and I believe the interviewers like this.
