Overview
Checking accounts and vouching invoices that the client has provided. Reconciling invoices with bank statements and communicating with the client when further queries are needed. Daily team catch up calls and the opportunity to visit client site. Opportunities to learn and improve my skills, especially on excel.
Skills
Communication with both the EY team and with the clients. Building confidence in excel work. Improved my understanding of audit work that will benefit me going back to university.
Responsibilities
Yes. I was surprised with how much responsibility I was given throughout the internship and was more motivated because of this. The tasks I got involved in were important to the audit work and felt like they were going to the overall closing of the audit. I was able to communicate directly with the client which allowed me to develop skills further.
Support & Guidance
So much. I felt like I was in teams where everyone from first year graduates to seniors and managers were extremely helpful and would take the time to walk me through the work that I was given to complete. They were also very responsive if I had any questions when going through the work. I do feel as though this was partially due to luck as was told not all are willing to help.
Culture
So collaborative and a real sense of community. Lots of social events that interns were able to take part in including a quiz. I felt like I was able to talk to anyone, even when I wasn't directly working with them. Also got involved in raising money for EY Foundations which was a great opportunity.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it. It confirmed to me that I wanted to go into audit once I have graduated university and that the type of company I want to work for is that with a culture and community spirit like EY. It has been a really enjoyable place to spend the last 5 weeks.
Yes
Start applications early. Don't be afraid to ask questions, it's probably better to ask questions as it means you get the work done right and it gets completed quicker which allows you to start another task and opportunity to develop skills further.
