Overview
My role has varied a lot since starting my internship. However I am mostly involved with data gathering and analysis. From there I present the data using Microsoft Office in a concise manner for other people in the team to use. I have also had to create brochures/product offerings for clients using that data. Further to this I have been able to leave the office and conduct viewings and inspections at the various sites.
Skills
Throughout the internship I have certainly advanced my computing skills, in particular that of Microsoft Excel as most of the data manipulation is conducted this way. The internship has also ensured that I remain punctual as I have been set deadlines and have had to attend external meetings around London. Finally, I have developed my interpersonal skills and have really enjoyed the opportunity to network both within Savills and with clients.
Responsibilities
Throughout the internship I was given progressively more responsibility. The first few days involved mostly training and getting used to the various computer networks. From there I was given more autonomy and was carrying out work by myself. As it progressed, the work became more complex and valuable to the team. I was also conducting viewings by myself within the first week of the internship.
Support & Guidance
The support and guidance received on the internship was very beneficial. Everyone was happy to help and when completing something for the first my team would take the time to show me how to do it and explain why it was important which I found very useful. The culture at Savills is extremely friendly and as such felt comfortable asking for help and advice as necessary.
Culture
The culture was fantastic. Throughout the internship I was invited to a number of company-wide events, notably the summer BBQ. These events were a great way to meet people within the firm and learn more about the culture. My team were also very sociable and they took me for drinks and for lunch in my final week.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my time during the internship and really felt like I got the most out of the program. The team made the month very enjoyable and included me wherever possible. I enjoyed the work that I was set because I got the impression that it was really beneficial to the others in the team. As such it is definitely a place I would work in the future.
Yes
I would advise people to reach out to people working in the firm. Everyone I have met is very approachable and would be happy to help with preparation for interviews and the application process. I would also advise people to make sure they research each division and apply to the one that they are most enjoyable/interesting.
