Overview
We got the chance to shadow several people in the office, looking into what valuations are, how they are done and what the next step is after completing a valuation. We had the opportunity to work with people and then did an individual case study, applying the learnings from shadowing.
Skills
While working on the tasks and projects, I have developed previous skills such as research, presentation, and communication. I have also had the chance to develop teamwork and networking skills, while I learned a lot about Excel which was very new to me.
Responsibilities
To start with, we were eased into the internship and given lessons on valuations. As we learned more, we were given more responsibility. For instance, I had to work on a client project and deliver a presentation to the Executives in the team which they were going to then take to a Partner. We also had to work on individual case studies to test our understanding of what we had learned over the first couple of weeks in the internship.
Support & Guidance
The team I was a part of were absolutely fantastic. They were incredibly welcoming and gave great support whenever it was needed.
Culture
The company culture and atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and friendly. I got the chance to go to a few social events and meet a number of new people, where everyone was helpful and willing to answer questions and get to know me.
Your Impressions
The internship has been a really enjoyable experience for me. The work was totally new so it was fun to learn about it. My team were incredibly supportive and ensured that I had a good time, and this echoed through the company as well. I think this is a place I would love to come back to in the future.
Yes
I think it is important to show a willingness to learn about new things. A lot of the work you do during the internship is based around things you won't learn at school/university, and you are not expected to know it either, so don't fixate on that. Ensure you know a lot about EY and why you want the specific role you apply for. For me, I felt the role and company were the right fit for me for a number of reasons, which made my interview a lot easier.
