Overview
As an intern, you are making sure to let everyone in the team know if you have the capacity to help, and aiding in completing a lot of admin stuff. You experience a variety of different task and aid in completing the work for lots of different clients, so your work and work you complete is diverse. You are responsible for making sure you have work to do, so you have to be very proactive. It's a lot of communicating with different people, including other interns with whom we had to plan and present a presentation.
Skills
I have developed my microsoft applications skills, especially powerpoint and excel. We also had to complete a CMI course, having a virtual hour session for it every week and then a few hours of independent learning throughout the week. This really helped develop our soft skills such as asking for feedback, being emotionally intelligent and personal development goals. Also, despite not having done much technical work, I picked up on a lot of tax technical terms and common terms which were used quite a lot. You also learn a lot about how to interact in an office environment.
Responsibilities
You were given enough responsibility to the extent where you felt as though you were contributing to the team and actually helping them save time, however the reassurance that your work will be checked by multiple different seniors made sure that there wasn't too much pressure on you as well. Once again, due to the nature of tax, I couldn't do much technical work, so a lot of it was admin, which was not too much responsibility. Also, when sat in client calls or team meetings, you mainly just had to introduce yourself and make some friendly small talk so in that aspect there was not too much responsibility
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support from the recruitment team, my team and the other interns. It was a very nurturing environment and everyone was there to help you make the most of your experience. Everyone was more than happy to talk to you, answer your questions, and where possible offer you work - nobody made it seem as though they didn't have time for you, even the Partners were all so willing to sit and have a chat. You also get a buddy and counsellor who were both very encouraging and approachable!
Culture
It was very nurturing - everyone was there to help you learn and make the most out of your experience. It was all quite relaxed while at the same time everyone had their heads down and were working hard. The company culture is very supportive and the work life if very flexible. Everyone is very social and good at communicating and the office overall is a very friendly atmosphere to be in.
Your Impressions
I had an amazing time on the internship! I got to meet some great people, both the people I worked with and the other interns. The work was very engaging and diverse and all the social events everyone made sure we were invited to and were very fun to attend. Overall a very busy but very worthwhile 5 weeks!
Yes
Definitely go for it! Make sure to involve other things in your application, not just your academic side to show that you are a well-rounded person and make sure to include key buzz words you find on the website about their work and culture in your application and interviews.
