Overview
Being assigned various assignments daily by different members of the team. This ranges from research tasks, using Microsoft excel / powerpoint, and also using Microsoft Teams to communicate with the wider team across the country, as well as clients. The members of my team gave me lots of responsibilities and I was always busy. In addition to my assignments, all of the partners in the division held talks with the interns to discuss their career journey.
Skills
I was given a lot of exposure to clients as I was allowed to join lots of calls and contribute. This sharpened my interpersonal skills, as the job role was very client-facing. I also sent many emails to senior people within the organisation, as well as clients. I also had various research tasks in which I had to present to senior members of my team - this developed my confidence and presenting skills. Additionally, I am more comfortable with Microsoft Excel and can use some of the complex features it has. Lastly, I was able to understand the industry etiquette.
Responsibilities
EY gave me lots of responsibility during my 5 week internship. I was assigned lots of different tasks, including creating materials that would be presented to clients. I was also allowed a lot of client exposure, being able to schedule meetings with clients on behalf of EY, and subsequently being allowed to join these meetings. It felt really rewarding knowing a lot of the materials I produced were used in various projects with different clients.
Support & Guidance
I obviously did not have a lot of industry experience prior to the internship, therefore many assignments involved concepts that were new to me. The team made it very clear that there are "no silly questions" - I felt very comfortable and encouraged to ask for help. As well as task-specific support, many members of the team gave me career guidance. I received support from everyone - from analysts to partners! EY assigned us a buddy and a counsellor; this was very useful as we had people who could support us the whole time and provide us with feedback.
Culture
I absolutely love the company culture at EY. The firm has very strong values where people are the backbone of everything they do and I saw this first hand. EY organised numerous socials across the 5 weeks, given the interns lots of opportunities to network with each other and other staff across different departments. This really helped me feel more comfortable working with my team. They also offer you the opportunity to get involved in societies and charitable events.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at EY. Every person I met were very friendly and supportive. Furthermore, they gave me a lot of responsibility and exposure. I really enjoyed the assignments I had, and the work varied each day. The government and transport team (the team I interned in) were really lovely and were proactive in finding things for me to do. I was aware of EY's culture before my internship, but seeing first hand was amazing! I would love to return
Yes
Research the company thoroughly before applying. The company's values are the backbone to how they operate. Make sure you know these values, as well as seeing yourself being able to apply them. Application processes can be stressful but it was really rewarding having this internship experience! It is very easy for me to say "don't be nervous", but you need to bear in mind that they want to make sure you will enjoy your internship.
