Overview
Each day would start with an audit team meeting via MS Teams where everyone in the client specific audit team would chat, ask any questions they had about the previous day's work and what tasks would be allocated to each person for the day. The day would mostly involve working through the given tasks, with a second 15 min meeting after lunch to ask any questions to the team.
Skills
Through my internship I was able to learn and develop a range of skills. Firstly, the role is largely MS Excel based, and having rarely used the software since Secondary School my ability and knowledge of the software improved greatly over the course of the internship. Additionally, my basic accountancy knowledge/ understanding largely improved. As you work in teams and communication is key, my confidence, team working ability and more interpersonal skills have greatly improved.
Business Insight
It was interesting to learn about KPMG, how they operate, the different divisions, the day to day processes, etc.
Culture
KPMG provide a very welcoming and inclusive workplace that allows people to feel as relaxed as possible within the workplace. Whether it be the relaxed uniform policy or regular staff activities, they have a focus on providing employees with a very friendly environment, something that made life at the firm very enjoyable.
Your Impressions
The insight into life at the firm was very enjoyable. The team I worked in were always there to help if I had any issues with a task and gave me a variety of tasks to ensure that I got to experience what life was really like in the role. The team also provided feedback consistently and actively encouraged collaboration throughout. The internship far exceeded my expectations and would highly recommend.
Yes
Go for it! I was unsure I'd like audit before joining, but decided to apply as I knew it would be a good experience and would help me in seeing what I would like to do after graduation. Although the assessment centres seem daunting, as long as you take your time, read through the questions, and mention as much detail, you will be fine.
