    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Sat in with the institutional distribution team. Worked on personal projects that included research and analytical skills. Sat in on meetings and client calls, helped by making meeting notes. Worked a lot with excel to update presentations and analyse how funds have changed quarter to quarter. Learned how my team works with clients and consultants to tie in deals and bring in money for the company. Helped my team with day to day activities and was always included in whatever they were doing.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Developed many new skills and existing ones. In particular, I have worked a lot with excel, especially with creating charts and analysing data. I have improved my efficiency skills and can get tasks done a lot faster now. I have also done a lot of work on power point, whether it e creating presentations or using them to inform myself. I have had to write lots of reports and help find data for my team, which has made me learn the importance of research and deciding what sources are reliable

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given responsibility but never too much where I felt overwhelmed. A lot of the work I did was passed on to external companies or other parts of M&G, and my team would credit my work in the emails which was very rewarding. Some of the reports I have written or data I have found has been used to make important decisions. I have been trusted by my team to do work that matters.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was consistently supported throughout my entire experience. From th eget go, my manager was very hands on and made sure that I always knew what I was doing and I felt comfortable talking to him. This extended to the rest of my team who would laways take time out of their day to explain concepts to me, and try keep me in the loop with what tey were working on. I was always guided.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • M&G is a very warm and friendly place to work. Everyone was so nice and approachable throughout, and I felt very comfortable. It is a relatively relaxed working environment, and my team especially made sure they worked hard and had fun. They all seemed to enjoy their jobs and liked coming into the office together, which provided a great working environment. Very flat culture, and there was no clear sense of hierarchy or intimidation

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed it in every sense. The work I did was really interesting and informative, it taught me a lot but was also not too out of my depth. I enjoyed the working culture, being in the city and in the amazing office. I also enjoyed the social side: getting to know my team and the other interns was fun and kept things quite relaxed and not too intense. The experience has made me exited to work.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to M&G plc
  • I would advise people to be excited to work here, and to not dread it or see it as intimidating. I would advise interns to make sure they go into the office as much as possible, as it is the best way to fully immerse yourself. I would also recommend talking to as many people as you can, as it is great to hear what people from all over the business do on a daily basis.
