    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role included shadowing members of my team whilst i worked on a FS project, working on preparing presentations for clients and participating/taking minutes in meetings. Outside of project work, we were expected to build a network and organise meetings with people firmwide.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • We were given a 3 day training course at the start of our internship. This focused on key consulting skills like presenting, teamwork, and goal setting. From shadowing client meetings, I have developed and learnt skills surrounding meeting etiquette. I have begun to see the necessity of building and maintaining a network within consulting, and have learnt the appropriate skills for this. I have also developed an aptitude for google slides creation.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given significant responsibility during my internship, and was asked to prepare a presentation which was given directly to the client. I also had direct interaction with the client in meetings. I shadowed meetings daily, so was given relevant and widescale exposure to business, and thus became fully integrated into the project.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Support could have been better at the start of the internship, where resourcing were slow to allocate interns to projects. We received little communication or guidance in this time, and interns were left feeling slightly lost and unsure what to do. Within my project team, support has been great, and my manager has been sure to create time for daily meetings to ensure every query that I have is answered.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was positive, staff seem happy at work and people are chatty. There is a good balance between hard work and having a good time. Dress for your day as a policy is effective as it ensures a more relaxed work environment. Whilst the staff work hard, they appreciate work life balance.
