Overview
Depending on the desk that you are placed on, your tasks will change. As a sales person within the trading floor, my roles within the day involved some sort of morning commentary, lots of shadowing, and completing projects usually trade ideas based on the desk your placed on.
Skills
Absolutely! The internship is intense but in return you learn immense number of skills ranging from analytical skills, interpretation skills, ability to construct trades based on macro headwinds, all the way to sharpening social skills & building confidence.
Responsibilities
Responsibility is set by yourself. If you want more responsibility then its up to you to go to your manager and ask to work on extra things. In general, you are given one or two tasks that brings value to the team and places responsibility to yourself, but if you are eager and looking to impress then its not uncommon to ask line managers for extra work/responsibility
Support & Guidance
Lots and lots of it, there is always someone that you can talk to or ask questions. Everyone is super open and if something does go wrong, HR is just around the corner for you to talk to.
Culture
Immense, everyone is kind and very open. Genuinely, I spoke to over 100 new people over the internship and not once did I get a bad vibe or impression. Everyone carries themselves well but at the same time very ongoing and welcoming.
Your Impressions
It is experiences like this one where you wish you had done it at a younger age. Not only was it super insightful, the amount of knowledge I have gained is immeasurable but you also meet friends, colleagues and mentors for life. If you get the opportunity to take the internship then do it without hesitation!
Yes
You need to be genuinely interest in the markets space because markets consists of more than just equity and stocks. It is a huge space so in order for you to stand out, you need to enjoy markets as well as understand what it means to work on the trading floor.
