Overview
I have been asked to analyse the support my team to provide to colleagues and prepare a presentation to give for our wider team. I have been involved in the daily routine of meetings in the team. Some time available for learning and reflection. We have also been given centrally managed intern projects where we work in small teams. Lastly we have been asked to do some charity fundraising.
Skills
Yes, I have gained much more insight into corporate organizations and made some improvements to my stakeholder management skills.
Responsibilities
A bit. Most of the work I have been doing has only been reported to my direct line manager and the people around him and then they can decide how to prioritize it. I have not worked on anything that was critical to our team, but it was still relevant to them.
Support & Guidance
I have found the company quite supportive. Line manager has been okay, but have been much absent for holidays. Nice graduate buddy to help me, and also good support from some of the younger colleagues in my team. Early careers have felt accessible and held check ins weekly. Generally most people when you reach out have been happy to chat and support.
Culture
Quite good. Everyone is very supportive of interns. The graduate councils have hosted a bunch of events for us. The company is very remote though with many working primarily from home, which I have found difficult as a new joiner.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed it fairly well. Some things could have been better with more in-person interactions, but overall it has been very insightful and I feel like I have learned something from the experience. Very nice cohort of interns that has helped a lot.
Yes
The assessment process for me was quite slow, so just be persistent and keep asking them. It is a very large corporate and this can make things frustratingly slow, but also provides a lot of opportunities to get insight into various fields.
