    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role has been extremely varied day-to-day and I have had the opportunity to get exposure to a range of aspects of Marketing. A typical day in the role has begun with a morning meeting ran by the head of Marketing where the the agenda for the day would be outlined and any queries answered. From then on, the role was largely varied day-to-day depending on the current tasks at the time. A big part of my role was creative writing, largely including blogs and customer case studies. I frequently spoke to customers and had the opportunity to engage with a range of individuals. Many aspects of the role has a lot of responsibility which was very rewarding.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Through getting involved in a range of different projects, I feel that I have largely expanded my skillset. Time management was a big one in ensuring that all deadlines get met. My communication has also greatly improved by talking to a range of customers and learning how to approach different situations. I was also encouraged to take on personal development courses in specific areas of Marketing, therefore my knowledge of the area has been enriched. To complete my role, I have also had exposure to a wide range of Marketing softwares that I had not previously used but was supported in the use of. Any skills that I expressed a desire to improve, such as public speaking, I was offered guidance and was given the opportunity to expand on this.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was welcoming, particularly during the training month where a range of staff members took sessions and gave an introduction to the company. Working from the office was essential during the first 3 months of placement to ensure we experienced the culture. This was harder to convey when employees were working from home but was overcome through regular socials, frequent team calls and beer Fridays once a week.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • My placement was very varied, which made it a lot more enjoyable as there were a range of tasks to get involved with and test if this was a career area I would like to explore in the future. The social opportunities made the placement more enjoyable, particularly the Christmas social. Being a part of a smaller team meant the rapport made the placement very enjoyable and the overall atmosphere was supportive.

  • Show yourself as a person and what your hobbies and interests are. The company look more at you as a person when applying so it's important to put this across in your application. Get the application in as early as you can as there's a lot of demand and if necessary, roles can close early. Do your research into what is being looked for at each stage. Stay calm and enjoy the process where you can.
