Overview
Collaborations with other summer placement students across the country on intern competitions such as a bridge design competition. Help calculations and checks on real life projects such as high speed 2 with the help of senior engineers. Network with senior staff in the office and via Microsoft team in meetings and more informal catch ups, presentations and tutorials.
Skills
I have advanced my excel skills, autocad skills and collaboration skills. I have learnt new modelling programs such as Midas and sketchup.
Responsibilities
I was responsible for helping carry out independent CAT3 checks on real life projects.
Support & Guidance
The support was very good however the guidance could have been better. My senior engineer struggling was not very encouraging and feedback was poor.
Culture
The culture was very good however the atmosphere was lacking in the guildford office. There was a much better atmosphere in the London office due to lack of stuff as most people worked from home.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it but it would have been significantly better if I was not the only intern in the office. I felt very exposed and my buddy failed to contact me once.
Yes
Be engaging and open to any opportunities that come your way.
