    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Everyday we'd start with a morning check in that went through the timetable of the day. Then the basic layout of the day we'd have 2/3 sessions with BDO managers/partners where they'd talk to us about a specific sector or area in the company. Then we'd have a session that focused more on ourselves. After that we'd end the day with a check out and discuss the information we'd been given and a brief insight into the next day

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I definitley developed some skills throught this insight. The main one is probably I've got better confidence in selling myself and my personal brand. It was great to be able to practice an elevator pitch and get tips with that which will be helpful for future interviews. However, a new skill I learnt was how to do a business analysis to determine the benefits and potential risks of a firm, whcih I previously did not know how to do.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • The clearly went throught every different sector the company had and the different pathways that were available for us as undergraduates. Furthermore, they told us more about the application process and what it is they look for in candidates and which candidates to better in the assessment centre. I liked being to have a detailed outlook on the business and potential roles because I got information that I wouldn't be able to find online. Hearing information from the source was incredible.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Even though it was virtual, I could get a sense that everyone in the company worked well together and were supportive of each other no matter what that would be. During technical issues, the team would joke about football teams and talk about what they had planned together as a work social. In terms of the culture, I think it's a very respectful culture where they appreciate their differences instead of making it a barrier between them.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight because it got me thinking more about accountancy and the different pathways that were available to me. I also liked the fact that it was interactive and there was stuff for us to do and questions for us to answer. It made it feel a less virtual in a way. I also really liked that they gave us a session where we'd just work in our teams on the project without constant supervision. That independence made me so professional.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO
  • I'd say if they're applying to BDO that they shouldn't be scared of getting things wrong or making mistakes. The one thing we were taught and constantly told is that BDO workers are there to support each other and work with one another, and defintely not there to judge. I think go in confident and just keep a positive attitude. The thing they care about the most is interaction and interest in the work they're doing.
