Overview
At the start of my placement I was taught all the relevant techniques this lab used allowing me to understand them quickly and efficiently. the following months I was assigned a group project where we developed "A novel method to assess spontaneous cough pre-clinically". Furthermore another project (solo) project was cell culture and treatments. Once completed treatments I performed a variety of different assays to assess my end points (cytokine, ATP and gene levels).
Skills
Yes, loads! I was assisted in getting my PIL A and PIL B license In-vivo: I learnt how to count cough, do evoked cough protocols and smoke exposures. In-vitro: cell culture and treatments, ELISA, RNA extractions, Organ baths, and qPCR's I have developed the skill to organise experiments, write protocols and extensive lab reports.
Responsibilities
Yes. I was always in the lab either doing my personal experiment or helping others
Support & Guidance
a lot of support! both within the lab and office (understanding protocols and writing lab reports)
