Overview
Insight into the work of commercial solicitors of varying levels of seniority in the department in which I sat. A chance to partake in legal work and to aid commercial solicitors. Insightful talks with solicitors, departments and representatives of different firm-wide initiatives which helped me better understand the firm. Fun socials and events organised by graduarte recruitments in which I learned about the firm in a more relaxed way.
Skills
Interpersonal skills and empathy because I interacted with many different kinds of legal professionals, staff and my fellow vacation schemers. Attention to detail and legal research skills. Organisational skills and focus because I had to deal with a packed schedule and make sure all my work was done to the best of my ability and by its deadline.
Business Insight
Gave me a better understanding of the way different roles complement each other within a law firm to deliver legal solutions to clients. It was particularly interesting seeing how innovation and legal tech is harnessed by specific departments.
Culture
Incredibly supportive and friendly culture. Trainees were very happy to answer questions and guide us through our work and more senior solicitors still managed to make time for one on one chats or talks throughout the scheme. Graduate recruitment was particularly supportive throughout the scheme and the schedule they put together was very useful and enjoyable. Staff throughout the firm and especially in the cafeteria were lovely.
Your Impressions
Really enjoyed it. Got a chance to work on complex and subjective pieces of legal work, as well as to learn from solicitors about the nature of their work and their sectors. Learning more about the firm’s diversity, growth and client-facing initiatives helped me better understand the firm and confirm that I wanted to train in it.
