Commercial Analyst Review

My role was largely to support the team through gathering data and creating insights to help aid with development of knowledge apps, facilitate desired features, and help make informed decisions. This involved working with back-end data and programmes such as PowerBI to create reports, communicating internally with my team to see what they needed, and working with teams like Comms to gather information and feedback from app users.

I have developed both hard skills such as PowerBI proficiency (from scratch), Technical Knowledge surrounding PowerApps and engineering, and business understanding throughout different teams and structures, as well as softer skills such as communication, teamwork, perseverance, organisation and time-management.

I was - my manager gave me space to make my primary project of developing an in-depth analytical report my own, and to use my own initiative into what insights to create and what features to focus on, as well as in enabling me to present my work to his manager. My manager was though still available for feedback and support when it needed it.

Anytime I was stuck on work or needed some time to discuss something, my manager made themselves available to support and guide me as best they could, or point me in the direction of someone else who would be able to help. On top of that, he also continually sent me various resources to help in my development and self-reflection, and made me aware of development opportunities.

Within the other interns and managers I have interacted with the atmosphere is great! Really positive and friendly, and everyone I have contacted in others teams and parts of the business are all willing to help. I have though experienced some cynicism when I have worked with engineers, I believe largely due to the disconnect between the office and other parts of the business, and engineers - however this is comparatively small.

I loved it! The people I've interacted with have all been great, the work I've completed has been varied and valuable, and I genuinely feel as though I have developed key skills both as an employee and a person. The only downside was that due to where I live, I was somewhat restricted from taking part in social activities and meeting-up with my fellow interns, but we still caught up over Teams.

To be yourself. Every intern I have met has been incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, if you have to pretend to act a different way you will likely struggle to maintain that - so just be honest and open! Also don't be afraid to ask questions to people, everyone is willing to spend time and talk so take advantage of that.
