    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Perhaps the best way to describe it is a 4 weeks taster programme, where networking is the primary task? I have definitely met some incredible people, and had some wonderful conversations. I submitted a Corporate Interest Return, and did a few admin pieces. I think the biggest value coming out of it was talking to people, and sitting in on client calls. I think I can speak for the majority of summer vacation students in saying that simply sitting in on calls is eye opening, in terms of understanding how to act, how to speak to them, the way they speak about things, humour etc.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Good communication about the next steps - i.e., after the internship, I was graded on various metrics, and then was told that this would be sent to student recruitment. They will make a decision whether to hire me as a graduate based on availability of the role and the recommendation of our performance manager/ leader.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Incredibly inclusive and warm. Not so 'straight' and 'buttoned up', but very people-centred. My manager was happy for me to take 15-20 minutes to pray on top of my lunch break, and the team were lovely to talk to both in a professional AND personal standpoint.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the programme - it was a great experience, especially talking to people and having open and transparent conversations about their likes and dislikes within their career, journey, their typical activities, and the teams within Corporate Tax. It was valuable to understand what people enjoyed, what they worked on, and compare that to my own interests, and find out what stood out to me, that I may work on in future.
