    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • • Obtaining and validating input data • Running simulations using @Risk (stochastic modelling tool) • Sense checking results • Preparing data (such as claims, holdings, temperatures) for input to a general linear modelling tool • Amending models to give alternatives as part of validation work

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • • Communication – both with my team and with other teams around the company. Learning how to best communicate with people of a different technical knowledge than myself was a challenge but something I feel I adapted to quickly. • Excel Skills – I was lucky enough to have a wealth of experienced people around me that have taught me many Excel skills such as linear modelling, dynamic function, efficiency evaluation and best practices of data presentation. I also undertook my own research into areas that were important for me to progress the project. • Adaptation to Technology – whilst initially working from home and online meetings were new for myself, I now feel confident doing both these things. I feel I have developed my technological skills greatly throughout the placement and now feel comfortable adopting a hybrid approach to work.

  • I was given a lot of responsibility within my team to both work on individual and team tasks that have and will have a long lasting effect on the team. I worked in accordance with regulations within the insurance industry which was a lot of responsibility for a summer intern.

  • The interview process is challenging but rewarding. Just make sure to be yourself and enjoy as you go through the process. The diversity within the company is what inspired me to apply and I would say just be open and have an open perspective when starting on your first day and you will be just fine.
