Overview
General insurance summer intern. Involved working on actual clients and attending internal meetings. Unlike other interns where you get given the work no-one else wants to do, you actually get to do interesting work. I was able to work on creating new models for clients and also creating files that will regularly be used by the team on almost all clients that require it. Also working on intern presentations, that we presented to the entire team towards the end of the internship. The topics are based on current matters and are on things that could benefit the team in the near future
Skills
Better understanding of the actuarial insurance industry. Much better at Excel. Communication skills.
Responsibilities
Yes. Involvement on live client work and on updating models that are to be used in the future.
Support & Guidance
The people are very friendly and everyone is willing to help or point you in the right direction to find the answers through other people or website, etc. If you get stuck or are unsure just ask.
Culture
Great culture. Friendly environment. Can have regular conversations in breaks. Often do work socials/ lunches and are welcoming. You don't get treated like an intern, but as if you are a professional.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed it. The only thing I could possibly say is that I potentially didn't get a wide enough scope of all the things the team does, due to the fact this time of year is very focused on a certain area ( validation). So if I were to join again, it would be a different time of year to get scope of that area, e.g reserving.
Yes
Ask questions and speak to everyone.
