Overview
We had some underlying intern projects which aimed to familiarise us with the Investment team's tasks and presentation skills. We also got involved in some of the simple client work pretty quickly which was super interesting. There is a sizeable intake of interns and we had to come into the Office everyday so we got to interact with a lot of the people in the team from Analyst level up to Partner.
Skills
Presentation skills have been highly valued with three/four presentations over the course of the internship. This has really helped with my confidence in presenting and shown me how I prefer to prepare for presenting. We have received regular feedback too so constantly are aware of how we want to improve. A lot of training also came in the form of learning through speaking to analysts and other employees to understand some trickier concepts and software.
Responsibilities
A reasonable amount of responsibility as we had to do a lot of drafting for client work. These drafts were then shown to Checkers and reviewers as part of the internal process but we were doing work that analysts also do. We had more responsibility over our projects as they were all individual and we could seek help and feedback while working on them to improve. However, these projects are unlikely to be used externally and are more of an assessment of our own understanding.
Support & Guidance
Most of the people are super happy to help and give up their time to do so and answer all of my questions. Every intern is assigned a buddy but all of the grads are super friendly and happy to chat. We each also have a team leader and a deputy team leader who we can go to with any issues or queries. And each project lead was always happy to help us after the project launch.
Culture
Everyone is really friendly and gets along really well. Being in the office is great for understanding the office dynamic and getting involved in work related and non work related conversations. There are office socials and sports teams too that go across all departments.
Your Impressions
They were flexible with my working hours due to a long commute. Most of the intern projects I enjoyed and all of them were clearly designed to improve specific tasks. Everyone who I spoke to was always super happy to help and really friendly. The client work was fairly repetitive but everything was interesting to learn about. I would want to come back.
Yes
During the presentation at the assessment centre, be interested in your topic, speak clearly and slowly, make sure you walk them through your slides and ask as many questions as you can.
