Overview
Help the structures team carry out principal inspections and write the corresponding reports on them. Carry out research on new products to see if they are suitable for their intended use. Check calculations provided by external clients for structures they are planning, eg. retaining walls and foundations.
Skills
I am now more confident on AutoCAD and have better time management. I have improved my literacy skills due to writing reports and emailing clients as well as sending out letters to the public and counsellors.
Responsibilities
I was given as much responsibility as other employees, I had other members of the team that I could contact if I was struggling and they also got in touch with me to make sure I was doing good. They made sure the work that I was being given wasn't too challenging that I couldn't undertake it even with help.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support from members of the teams that I was working in as well as from my line managers. HR and VIA's training centre were also available for support during my placement for any questions or queries that I had.
Culture
The company culture was good, with most employees knowing each other even from different teams. The atmosphere was good everyone wanted to work there and welcomed new employees into the business.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at VIA. I would recommend them for a placement as they made me feel welcome and part of the team. The work was fun too with each day being different and a lot of variation between tasks.
Yes
If you want to try a different team or area out to the one listed ask them as they try to accommodate everyone so will try to move you about.
