Overview
As a Project Management Assistant, I have had the chance to work on many exciting projects either from their beginning or towards their completion. On a day-to-day basis, I have been calling customers to document their project requirements, logging new projects in the CRM, answering customer's questions to keep them informed on current time scales and progress, and planning work for the next sprint with my team.
Skills
I have learnt the importance of project management tools and how our team uses them to track and schedule projects. One of the most important skills I have developed is time management, whether it's scheduling projects at the right time or replying to customer's questions in a timely manner, this ensures there is continuous progress and communication. Another skill I developed is communication to build strong customer rapport and maintain good relationships.
Responsibilities
Yes right from the beginning, you are given a lot of responsibility in everything you do. This has included being a key point of contact for customers, reporting feedback to your team based on the customer's testing, scheduling the right projects into a sprint, keeping everything documented, and being open about any questions or difficulties you face as you're learning in the role.
Support & Guidance
During my placement, there has always been great support from my team and other departments, especially when you have any questions or if you are unsure of something. My team have also encouraged me to take part in things that have increased my confidence and experience as a project manager, which I have enjoyed doing throughout the year.
Culture
The company culture could be described as positive and team focused. During our first month of training, I thought the atmosphere was friendly and encouraging as we learnt new things, and when our team was in the office it was easy to speak to everyone and work together on projects. We had a few social events during the year and those days were always fun and a great opportunity to talk to your colleagues.
Your Impressions
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year as I got to learn more about my strengths and weaknesses, developing my confidence, communicating better and what working in a team really looks like. It has also helped me see what I enjoy doing and what areas I would like to work in. It will be difficult to leave ProspectSoft, but I am grateful for all the skills I have gained and developed here.
Yes
I would advise anyone to go over the job description again and think of how you can give examples of situations where you have demonstrated those skills before. It might be useful to write a few questions you could get asked, prepare answers for them and research the company beforehand. Be yourself in the interview and try to stay positive until the end of the recruitment process.
