Overview
The role involved leading a project on building the Intranet page for Operational Excellence. I had to work with different departments to get content for the website and build it into Sandbox before running a trial for a trial group. Certain gates needed to be passed in order to move onto the next stage of the project.
Skills
I have learned how to build in an intranet site, built on my communication skills and become more understanding of work life and the office culture. I have also learnt how to curtail content towards different audiences, receive feedback and adapt based on that feedback.
Responsibilities
I was able to lead a project, which involved responsibility. The project was not business critical but I wouldn't expect that for an internship experience. The level of responsibility was the correct level.
Support & Guidance
I was given good support for my placement. The weekly catchups with HR and other summer interns was helpful and an opportunity to ask questions and compare experiences. I was also given an introduction to many departments and able to take some training courses, which helped me gain a better understanding of the business.
Culture
Strong company culture. Employees seemed to get on well with each other and generally bought into the vision. There were different networks that employees could join, such as the gender network. There was a company wide event being scheduled, which costed a lot of money but was seen as important for the company culture and the launch of the rebrand.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement. It was a good opportunity to understand work culture more and be apart of a working team. The internship slightly exceeded expectations. I had high expectations given the conversations I had during the recruitment stage. I would consider going back to this company but likely in a different role.
Yes
Be yourself. The company do not currently do AI CV and Cover letter checks so as long as your CV is well written and presented you have a chance. Be confident in yourself and do not get too stressed as the interviewees are likely to be very friendly.
