Skills
I have Improved my Microsoft Excel skills as I used that everyday. Also improved my communication and team working skills as the job requires you communicate with other professional teams (internal or external) in order to be able to complete your tasks. -Gained multiple certificates from doing courses on the company Hub listed Below: -Fire Module -First Aid Module -Computer Workstations (DSE) (CPD certified & IOSH approved) -Information Security Essentials -Phishing -Information Security Smart GDPR
Responsibilities
Was given responsibility when I was sent a folder of A55's (claims) and I had to to review the evidence and either approve or reject the payment. This was in my second week and they provided me with the names and departments I would need to communicate with in order to complete the task and left me to it.
Support & Guidance
Received plenty of guidance and support during the placement including people outside my team such as the City Planners and BAE's. Everyone was always keen to help and provide support whenever I needed it. Majority of people I met on my first week(s) gave me their contact details, for me to contact them if I needed help with anything that would help my education and placement experience.
Culture
We had regular team meetings and everyone was friendly and offered me their support during the meetings. I worked with a diverse team in every office I visited and felt inclusive. They also announced that they would be doing charitable work at the Brighton Pride and offered staff the opportunity to be involved if they were available or interested.
Your Impressions
When I started I only knew of Quantity Surveying from a property development point of view, so working at Cityfibre has opened up my mind and showed me that they are more opportunities than I first thought . I mostly enjoyed how different everyday could be, the fact that they have you involved in more than one project means that you get to experience a different atmosphere every other day.
Yes
My interview process had 2 phases, first phase was with HR and was a basic interview. The second phase was me doing a 10 min presentation about myself, how I would contribute to Cityfibre during my placement etc. This was to the same HR recruiter from the first Interview and 2 Quantity Surveyors, who are now my supervisors. For your first day, I'd say dress smart or smart casual and get the feel of the office you're based in. In terms of work, don't be scared to ask for more tasks, as they all contribute to your learning. If you're not sure about something, ask anyone around you and they'll either help you or direct you to the right direction.
