Overview
I review the end to end recruitment processes to ensure that recruitment is fair and accessible to all applicants regardless of whether they have a disability or not. This mainly involves editing candidate communications and making our processes around reasonable adjustments clear, as well as producing guides for hiring managers on supporting candidates with disabilities.
Skills
I have developed both my written and verbal communication skills, providing updates on my project to the wider team and writing scripts for early careers website videos. I have also developed market research skills to compare our recruitment activities to competitors' and make a business case for updating our processes.
Responsibilities
Yes - I was pleasantly surprised by how much I have been able to take ownership of my project. My manager has been there to support but most of the final work that has been signed off has been my own, and I have been encouraged to take the initiative and do what I feel is best - I don't have to check everything first before I do it.
Support & Guidance
I've felt really supported throughout, both by my line manager and wider team, and by the programme team who run the internship - if I've ever had any problems or worries, I know there are people I can go to who will be able to help. I am given all the information I need well in advance, and am told what I need to do with plenty of notice.
Culture
Amazing! I feel like I can be my full self at work and that is not only accepted but encouraged. It's a really relaxed environment, I can wear my comfy leggings and a jumper and that's completely fine. Everyone seems so happy to be here and is so friendly - there's a culture that people take the work seriously but don't take themselves too seriously, and that's been really good.
Your Impressions
I have loved my time here, and would love to come back after university. I genuinely don't have a bad word to say about it, would recommend to anyone!
Yes
Just be yourself! Tesco really do want to get to know your authentic self, and it will get you much further than putting on a front of who you think they want. Take the time to research the company and make sure that it aligns with your values, and you won't go too far wrong.
