Overview
On a daily basis, I help with administrative work which can involve updating sections of contracts, most of which are involved with the company merge. I also take notes for meetings which can be used in reports, and have been assembling FAQs for Currencycloud employees in the United Kingdom, United States, Netherlands and Asia-Pacific regions in relation to contracts. I also work on redaction for reports and may have to work on data sheets at times.
Skills
I have improved my presentation skills - this has been by attending a training workshop for Presentation Skills in which we filled out a booklet which helped to form a structure which can be utilised for any type of presentation and explored key ideas which help make a presentation more interesting. I expanded on this further by using this Template in my Social Impact Challenge, where my group and I practiced using the Visa branded presentation templates and improving our scripts and layout together in rehearsals.
Responsibilities
Yes and no. One one hand I was given access to confidential documents, restricted files and data which I had the task of organising and adding information to. These types of data would be further used after this took place, such as informing new employees of their Visa job level. Furthermore, being assigned the task of redacting reports ensured that subjects and interviewees were able to keep their anonymity and feel safe reporting any problems they had at work.
Support & Guidance
I've received a lot of support from members of my Employee Relations team as well as the Next Gen Talent acquisition team. This involves getting help for any problems I've had after being assigned tasks or over the course of the internship in general. In terms of guidance, I haven't received that much guidance regarding the course of the internship from my ER team, but I was able to gain that guidance from the Next Gen Talen Acquisition team.
Culture
The company culture at Visa is one that encourages a friendly, accepting and healthy environment. The general atmosphere makes me feel more comfortable at work and excited to come in. Visa also provides a range of services which show that they care about the wellbeing of their employees such as a multi-faith space, wellbeing room and a gym. I use the multi-faith space every day and find that it really caters to my needs as a Muslim.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed meeting the other interns while on my placement, including the ones from the previous intake. The socials were also great networking opportunities as I was also able to meet apprentices and graduates. In addition, I was also able to meet [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] and learn more about their work. Also, being able to take part in new projects was really fun. This included the Social Impact Challenge which pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to meet the interns who worked outside of the UK.
Yes
The advice I would give to others applying at Visa is to practice interview questions and to research what the company does and get a good understanding of it. Keeping up to date with new projects and innovations, especially those relevant to the department you're interested in working in shows a genuine interest for Visa, which is what employers look for in their candidates. Being able to interact well with people and being a good presenter are also useful skills to have which you'll likely apply during your time here.
