Overview
I worked in Moor Lane within the Innovation Hub in the Central Manufacturing team. I spent most of my time looking at automation and robotics within the context of manufacturing.
Skills
I have learnt to be agile, adaptable and have developed confidence in a working environment. It is really good to get some experience in a corporate setting because you cannot get this from university.
Responsibilities
The tasks I was given were not essential/critical however I was given the trust to develop the task the way I felt was best. A huge positive to speak with - and learn from - staff from all over the business.
Support & Guidance
I received consistent support throughout and was able to access more or less depending on what I needed. My team were very considerate and great at incorporating us into the business.
Culture
The company generally has a corporate atmosphere however it is dependent on the day and how many people are in the office and who. As you'd expect there are a range of personalities but generally there is quite a thorough and safety-focussed culture (which has positives and negatives).
Your Impressions
I found my internship really valuable: I learnt and developed many skills that uni cannot offer, I met some great people throughout and have gained a different perspective of the industry. I have really enjoyed my time: but you get out what you put in.
Yes
Put in the effort to speak with staff around the business because you can learn so much from them and almost everybody is really approachable. If there is a certain area you want to work in then ask about and often you can make it happen.
