Overview
This was a half-day event at the Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner offices in London. It included a Q&A overview of the firm and an application session with the Emerging Talent Team, a Q&A panel with trainees and junior associates and networking over canapés on the terrace.
Skills
The application session was particularly helpful and has changed how I will structure my application. It was a great opportunity to get a feel for the firm and its people too- everyone I spoke to was approachable, relaxed and helpful.
Business Insight
Understanding how the international offices work together was really useful, as was hearing what the day-to-day work of a trainee involves. I came away with lots of useful bits of insider information!
Culture
If you feel that 'big law' is inaccessible, stuffy or exclusionary, I encourage you to go and meet with Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner. It is clear that Emerging Talent have put a lot of thought not only into their recruitment strategy, but also into retaining diverse talent. Their lawyers are open and friendly and shared genuine experiences with me on a much deeper level than I have experienced at other firms. I think I would be very happy there!
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it! It is important to me as a disabled student who is career-changing that I get a true sense of the company culture and where I would fit. My interactions with staff at the firm all felt very genuine, which was lovely.
Yes
If you have the chance to meet with the firm at an event, say yes! You will be surprised at how down to earth and willing to offer advice they all are. On that note, if there's something specific you want to know more about, or if you want to chat to someone with a similar background, the firm will support you in doing that. Don't be afraid to ask.
