Overview
I completed different tasks to help out team members on various project briefs for Spring/Summer 23. This included doing trend and comp shop research, Shop reports, inspiration boards, print designs, bits of CAD designs, specification sheets, organising Pantone colour books.
Skills
From doing the placement I have learnt new skills in illustrator. As I hadn't really used the software much and the company uses it a lot, it gave me time to explore the programme and start and use it more which was really helpful as I was wanting to use it more with my work but hadn't really had the opportunity to use it as much. I also got in-site into how the company works to get designs ready, from making the prints and doing mock up plans to putting them onto specification sheets that get sent off to the production companies with the requirements of how the product needs to look.
Responsibilities
I was given some tasks that included responsibilities, for example, doing the specification sheets as you had to make sure these had all the correct information for them being sent off to the production companies.
Support & Guidance
I received support from all the team members who were always willing to help out by answering any questions I had and showing me how to do things that I didn't know how to do.
Culture
The company had a very inclusive atmosphere which showed through designs and products they were doing.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement as it gave me a great opportunity to see how the company works and get a feel for what it's like to work for a company and in industry. The team were lovely and amazing to work alongside and gain knowledge from, I would definitely go back.
Yes
You don't need to feel nervous about starting as I was really nervous but everyone was really friendly and made me feel welcomed and I settled in quickly. They were also flexible and try to meet your needs. For example, when there were days when transport strike actions were taking place, they allowed me to work from home and gave me tasks to do which worked around this.
