Overview
I am primarily responsible for leading a KPI based project, that looks at how the KPIs within the Supply Chain Department can be better managed, as well as looking at how the KPIs can be improved. Besides this, I am responsible for creating and sending out a range of reports such as the backorder report, and a stock availability report that I send out to all of the major retailers.
Skills
Most notably I have developed my project management skills. I was given the opportunity to attend a project management course at the start of my internship to prepare myself for project I have been responsible for. I have also improved my communication skills as I am regularly asked for information both internally and externally and I have to provide this information as clearly as possible. I have also developed Excel skills.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. As mentioned, the reports I am responsible for go to both internal and external stakeholders and the information i provide can influence major business decisions. For the project, I have been given full responsibility of managing it, and I have been expected to present its progress to management, however I do have people that are able to support me if I need any help.
Support & Guidance
I have been given all the support I have ever needed during my placement. I have a weekly one to one meeting with my manager, but he is always available to talk whenever I need support whether it be work related or personal. I have also had the opportunity to attend courses for any skills I need to develop, such as a project management course as well as others such as an Excel course.
Culture
There is a lot of positivity in the company, particularly within my department. Everyone is willing to help each other whenever required and we have also attended team building days. There was a time in which we went go karting and also went for a meal and there have been other occasions when we have gone to the pub after work. there is also a great atmosphere amongst the interns.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my internship. The project gave me numerous opportunities to develop my knowledge of Supply Chain management but it has also been fun and very rewarding when I see the improvements i have managed to implement to the Supply Chain KPIs. The reporting I am responsible for can be tedious at times, but I do understand the reports have to be made and that someone has to make them,
Yes
The most important piece of advise would be to ensure that you put relevant skills on your CV that are desired in the job description. this will significantly increase your chances of being shortlisted. With regards to the interview, it is important to learn as much as you can about the company beforehand. They'll be really impressed if you can give some stats. You should also be really enthusiastic about the job.
